Know Your Way Around Construction Equipment

Four Elements You Can Have Built Into Your Custom Garage

If you want to add a garage to your home, you have a couple of different options. You can have a building company come install a pre-manufactured garage that just comes in a couple of preformed pieces, or you can have a garage custom-built from scratch. While the pre-fab option is often cheaper and a bit faster, there are some real advantages that come with opting for a custom build. For one, you can include some useful elements that will make your day-to-day life easier and your garage more functional. Here are a few of those elements.

Built-in Shelving

Garages often end up being used for storage. But figuring out where to stash the numerous totes and boxes you store things in can be a hassle. With built-in shelving, you won't have to stack or unstack boxes, and you won't be using valuable floor space to store your items, either. Your garage builder can customize the size and depth of the shelves to meet your needs, and they can even include specialized storage spaces for items like kayaks, bikes, and other gear you might have.

A Man Door

Most garages have a large door in the front, and that's it. If you want to get inside, you have to open the large door, which uses electricity and can be a pain if your opener decides to malfunction! When you have a custom garage built, you can arrange to have a small man door placed on one side. Use this door when you want to access the garage on foot, so you won't put as much wear and tear on the opener for the big door.

Custom Width

Pre-manufactured garages usually come in a few different widths: one-car, 1.5-car, 2-car, and so forth. If you need a different amount of space, having a garage custom built is much easier. Say, for example, you need enough room for your car and a motorcycle, but you don't have quite enough space for the standard 1.5 car garage because of your home's design. A custom builder can create something to suit your needs.

A Loft

A custom garage builder can also add a loft over half the garage, giving you more space to store sporting goods, home repair equipment, and other items you might have. You can have the loft be as deep and tall as you want, as the builder will be making it to your specifications.
